What We Do
Our output is in three areas.
Firstly, in the provision of days out, privileged access to big events and in a first hand, front seat, white knuckle introduction to an exciting and engaging sport.
The preparation, development, coaching and teamwork involved in competition is a hugely cathartic experience. By engaging in sprints, hill climbs, track racing, offshore powerboating and rallying we engender a real team ethos. It is about much more than just the driving – car and boat preparation, logistics, support and race management all present challenges to be overcome.
This can greatly help in the rebuilding of an individual’s confidence and provides emotional as well as practical support, and we are chock full of examples of where that is exactly the case – where participation in motorsport is changing lives for the better. This year we are sprinting, hillclimbing, as well as entering works teams in major international endurance events, not to mention providing pit crew to the likes of Derek Bell MBE, racing at the Le Mans Classic.
Mission Motorsport provides a range of training courses and educational opportunities to suit the needs of individuals. These range from one day basic car maintenance courses at our workshop near Tedworth House; to a Modular Motorsport Foundation course culminating in a residential placement working with a major race team. Our powerboat crews have gained RYA qualifications up to instructor level and a City & Guilds in seamanship skills is available to those that desire it.
We have guys on placement NOW with major manufacturers – not least Bentley and Jaguar LandRover, but also with race car manufacturers and with race teams. Not just for budding engineers and mechanics – we’ve opportunities in management, project management, HR, security, logistics, events and customer relations, including media placements with the BBC and in the motoring media.
Sport is important, it is restorative and healing, but it can’t just be about the here and now. We work hard in order to secure job offers for our beneficiaries, and to help give them that start on a successful second career. Many have already begun that journey.
