Meyrick Cox Day
Every year, the Mission Motorsport team alongside an army of volunteers, beneficiaries, supporters and friends of the charity, descends upon Goodwood for the Meyrick Cox Day to remember the late Chair of the Board of Trustees Meyrick Cox and others from the Mission Motorsport family who have sadly passed.
Generously sponsored by Thakeham Group, where Meyrick also served on the board, the day is open to those from the Armed Forces Community who are wounded, injured and sick, to enjoy a day of recovery sport and to share stories of recovery to inspire others.
Sporting Output
Set against the backdrop of beautiful scenery, glorious weather and the roar of engines, the day provides service men and women, veterans and their families with a thrilling and enjoyable day of motorsport.
Activities include:
-Passenger rides around the track
-Car control experiences on the Goodwood skidpan.
We Will Remember
Paying tribute to the late Chair of the Board of Trustees, Meyrick Cox, we pause to remember his kindness, and generosity and celebrate his life with family and friends as well as those who are no longer with us.
Gary Dunning
Gary joined the British Army in the early 1990s and served with the Pioneer Corps. His 2003 tour in Iraq left a scar. He attended the Mission Motorsport Launch as a beneficiary – his enrolment on 1 March 2012 was as beneficiary number 1. His story resonated with others, from the 2012 Silverstone 24 hour race, to his gentle friendship, and the depth of his piercing gaze.
Richard Gaylard
Richard had been a selfless volunteer with us since 2018. Not just a volunteer, he was a lovely bloke. In between the big events, but in the build up to activities he would pop in to MMHQ to help Aston and Dave, always on hand to sweep up and make the brews. His widow, Nina carries his legacy on by fundraising and volunteers herself as a MM Training Wing invigilator.
David Browne
We met David through his love of ridiculous cars, and the communities that they form. Although suffering with terminal illness, he chose Mission Motorsport as his cause, and he set about on historic rallies and other fund raising events to raise money for the Charity. His beautiful Mustang and RS6 Avant also gave many beneficiaries an unforgettable trip around this very circuit.
Muriel Joy Rainey
Joy, as she preferred to be known, was a lady small in stature but large in personality. We recently found out that MISSION MOTORSPORT was included as a benefactor as per her wishes in her will. Her last request was to have her ashes scattered on the Prescott Hill Climb, where she held a class record.
Mick Watts
Mick joined the Army as a boy soldier, retiring as a Major in the Adjutant General’s Corps. A motorbike accident whilst on an expedition in Africa left him without the use of his left arm. Mick was put through his ARDS Training and raced in a Mission Motorsport team at the Race of Remembrance in 2019.
