Banter, Brews & Cars - The one where it snowed....alot!

On Tuesday 16th January, we headed up to Wigan, for the first Banter, Brews & Cars event of 2024 at Three Sisters Circuit. With the Split control Mazda MX-5 in tow and an army of volunteer drivers set to deploy for a fantastic day of passenger rides, Mother Nature scuppered our plans when, on the morning of the event, we awoke to a heavy dusting of snow.

On arrival at the circuit, it soon became clear that our plan to get out on track was not going to be possible (the safety of our attendees, drivers and staff was paramount), and we needed to change our plans. So what to do…

Whilst the circuit thawed out and the Three Sisters team worked hard to clear the track, we decided, obviously to build a snowman. Positioned in the middle of the skidpan, we then quickly laid out a drift course (around said snowman) and thanks to 10 volunteer drivers, 19 excited beneficiaries queued up to enter the “Thunderdome” to try their luck at the impromptu Mission Motorsport WInter Drift Championship … people had arrived for a day of fun and that was exactly what we were going to give them!

By lunchtime, after everybody had warmed up, we were delighted to learn that the track had been significantly cleared and we’d been given the go-ahead to get the cars out for some steady-paced sighting laps. It wasn’t long before normal service resumed and beneficiaries were strapped in enjoying passenger rides.

Despite the weather, it was fantastic to be joined by members of the community - some traveling from as far away as Cornwall and others from the Scottish Borders. We were left in no doubt that everybody had a good time - we’ve never seen so many happy, grinning faces!

We’d like to extend our thanks to Three Sisters Circuit and BAE Systems for supporting these events.

We’ll be back at Wigan on the 7th of February with “The Battle of the Japanese Import”
