Meyrick Cox Day at Goodwood Motor Circuit: A Celebration of Community and Recovery
This year the Meyrick Cox Day brought together beneficiaries, supporters, and veteran organisations including the Chelsea Pensioners for a powerful day of reflection, recovery, and connection at the world famous Goodwood Circuit. Generously supported by Thakeham, it was a day of celebration not just of one life, but of the resilience and camaraderie that define the Armed Forces community.
The circuit was buzzing with activity on and off the track and ranged from passenger laps in high-performance cars to, skidpan and split-control car sessions and even virtual laps of the circuit thanks to R Simulator who also joined us on the day. A highlight was the arrival of the Historic Army Aircraft Flight’s Bell H-Sioux helicopter.
A standout achievement of the day was 8-year-old Alyssa’s incredible lap in the Austin J40 pedal car. She completed the course in just 31 minutes and 51 seconds, smashing the previous record and capturing the spirit of determination and focus that defined the event.
The event saw 150 beneficiaries , including Fighting With Pride, Blesma – The Military Charity for Limbless Veterans, The Bike Experience (who showcased their adaptive motorcycles), Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Clubs, Beyond The Wire, Op Courage, the Department for Work and Pensions, and the Women’s Royal Army Corps Association enjoy a fantastic day of recovery sport
.One of the many inspirational beneficiaries in attendance was Dougie, a veteran who raises mental health awareness by carrying a beer keg on his back. The keg, named the “Keg of Demons,” was created by Doug to not only highlight but encourage discussions around mental health and allowed people to share their thoughts on paper and on the Keg. We wish him luck as he prepares to take part in the Baton of Hope UK Long Walk, continuing to inspire others.
Speaking about the day, beneficiary Keith shared:
“I haven’t felt this sense of belonging in years. Being around people who just get it, who’ve walked similar paths—it reminded me that I’m not alone. Days like this really help put you back together.”
The Meyrick Cox Day was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people come together around a shared purpose. It was a day of personal breakthroughs, new friendships, and collective strength.
To everyone who participated—beneficiaries, volunteers, drivers, charity partners, and guests—thank you. The legacy of Meyrick lives on in the connections made and lives touched at Goodwood.
