Mission Motorsport hosts record numbers of beneficiaries at Festival of Speed 2021

  • Mission Motorsport attends Festival of Speed, Goodwood (8th -11th July 2021)

  • Record attendance by beneficiaries thanks to the generosity of Thakeham Homes

  • Families from Scotty’s Little Soldiers enjoy a day of family fun

One of the highlights of Mission Motorsport’s calendar is the fantastic Festival of Speed held at the idyllic Goodwood Estate. Thanks to the generosity of Thakeham Homes, who donated over 400 tickets to the charity, the team were able to host record numbers of beneficiaries including families from Scotty’s Little Soldiers, allowing over 178 adults and 110 children, to enjoy a weekend of action-packed family fun.

Enjoying a new location, directly next to the cricket pitch, beneficiaries old and new, were able to access free drinks and snacks whilst having a ‘basecamp’ in order to rest, sit, chat or charge phones at the Mission Motorsport stand. There was also the chance to enjoy the record-breaking Renault ZOE, the Tim Layzell Art 911 Porsche and admire the Viper Green Morgan Plus Six, kindly lent to the charity for the occasion.

Over the course of the four-day event, beneficiaries were given exclusive access behind the scenes and the chance to walk around the driver’s paddock. Allowing them to get up close to a variety of cars and meet some legendary motorsport idols including Damon Hill and TV personalities such as Jimmy Deville, there were some big smiles on beneficiaries’ faces. There was even the chance for beneficiaries to enjoy a ride in a Ferrari on the Hill Climb.

With the aid of a buggy, mobility was not an issue and those disabled or just purely exhausted were able to access parts of the show, which they may not necessarily have been able to otherwise.

Steve Binns, beneficiary said, “I’m rarely rendered speechless. I’ve just had the best day – things have been a bit hard lately but today has been exactly what I needed. You guys are amazing and I can’t thank you enough. ”

The festival was not only for big people - younger members of the family were able to enjoy a variety of activities in the Thakeham family area including face painting, ‘tot car’ racing, ball pits and a variety of building activities including the chance to operate full-size diggers as well as meeting the Wacky Racers in addition to the brilliant spectator shows and incredible stands around the site.

In addition to our own beneficiary families, Mission Motorsport was thrilled to host families from Scotty’s Little Soldiers, the charity for bereaved British Forces children. Over 47 adults and 43 children attended. Holding a special place in the hearts of the team, it was incredible to see so many children and young adults enjoy the day.

Charlie’s mother said, “Rain, travel, trucks, bikes & eventually the sun, we had so much FUN. Thank you, Scotty’s, for the opportunity of an awesome day."

The weekend was an incredible success with everybody leaving tired, but smiling. We are incredibly thankful to Thakeham Homes, without whom, we would not have been to provide families with a day of happy memories.
