Mission Motorsport Race Makers Shine at Silverstone’s MotoGP and Formula 1

This year, the charity’s annual Race Maker programme at Silverstone supporting both MotoGP and Formula 1—not only featured landmark races but also delivered powerful moments for several Mission Motorsport beneficiaries.

Over the last 11 years, the Race Maker programme has become one of our most powerful tools in our mission to support wounded, injured and sick veterans through motorsport. Some of our veterans arrive at Mission Motorsport in a fragile state—emotionally, mentally, and sometimes physically. Thanks to our growing partnership with Silverstone Circuit and the continued success of the Race Maker programme, events such as these, allow our former service men and women to rediscover purpose, regain their confidence, find community and enjoy that sense of belonging once more.

In a proud moment captured from the Formula 1 Grand Prix, Spencer Wuidart Gray and Nick Owen, third and fourth from the left, stood on the grid, presenting the F1 flag before the race. For them, and for Mission Motorsport as a whole, this was a real honour. Their presence represents not only individual journeys but also just how far our collaboration with Silverstone has come in recent years.

What makes the Race Maker experience so special isn’t just the excitement of the event, it’s the family that forms around it. It’s a safe, non-judgemental, welcoming space that many beneficiaries look forward to all year. For some, it’s their lifeline, a week-long escape that helps them endure the challenges of day-to-day life.

After a long day on shift, back at camp the Aireshelta generously loaned to the charity, proved to be a vital asset—providing shelter from heavy rain and keeping our gear, electronics, and most importantly our people, dry and safe.

The relaxed, supportive atmosphere on-site made for an environment where everyone could thrive. Our Race Makers performed their duties with professionalism and spirit, and the sense of teamwork was palpable, especially during the final breakdown, where many hands made light work.

The feedback we’ve received speaks volumes:

"I was doing stand security at the F1 Grand Prix last weekend and was just wondering if you could pass on my thanks to the Race Makers I had on my stand, Leon Bracegirdle and Mark Ridley. They were both amazing all weekend, and there’s no way I could have done it without them!"

Everyone who attended has said the same thing: "We want to do it all again." And that says it all.

Details on how to apply for the 2026 Race Maker Programme will be released later this year - please keep your eyes peeled for more information!
